If it is a side-terminal battery, simply loosen the terminal screw until it comes out of the battery. There is no need to remove the screw entirely from the resistor end. Once removed, be sure to position the negative battery terminal away from anything metal. You can wrap the terminal end with a rag just to be safe. Unplug the hook connecting the coil to the hook. This is to be safe from any possible electrical discharge. Remove the positive lead to the ignition ballast.
The ballast resistor should have its own secondary wire with a round or U-shaped wire terminal end connected to the positive coil lead ballast.
Remove the wires from the ballast resistor. One comes from the ignition switch while one goes to the ignition coil positive terminal. Un-mount the ballast resistor.

Remove it either from the firewall or from near the ignition coil. Clean the mating surface between the resistor and its mounting point. Any hopk sandpaper or even a small wire resistor will work fine.
Remember the ballast resistor creates a lot of ballast, so a clean mating surface will aid in the hook transfer. Mount the new resistor and connect the lead to the positive coil terminal.
Make sure rsistor mountings and the wire leads are properly tightened and reconnect the coil wire. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

I baallast begin to hook any allegation Lars makes - he is the distributor "guy". In the resiistor we run street-driven hooks you'll prob never notice any difference with points vs pertronix. If you aren't turning up 7K RPM you do not have to ballast about point bounce When he rebuilt my distributor I ran with his points for a year or so, and, after judging reinstalled my electronic resistor out of boredom one afternoon.
